Hop on board with Global Warming Express

You might have heard of Global Warming Express, the award-winning New Mexico program by and for kids that was the driving force behind bag-free Santa Fe and the Acequia Madre solar shade structure; maybe you saw these kids testify at the Roundhouse or at EPA hearings about coal mining on public lands.

Now the Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter and Global Warming Express are working to join forces to offer more kids the excellent after-school program created by Global Warming Express.

Our small chapter’s executive committee approved this project with one big condition: We must raise $35,000 by July 15.

We have $15,420 already pledged. Please contribute to help Global Warming Express reach more kids. If we don’t reach our goal, we will return your money after the deadline.

Last year, these kids won the New Mexico Governor’s Award for their great work getting schoolchildren interested in science and civics and showing them how to make a difference in our world. Check out this video about the group.

Global Warming Express was founded in 2012 by 9-year-old Marina Weber and Joanna Whysner at Acequia Madre Elementary. The GWE after-school program is available to children at several Santa Fe schools now, but 12 schools are on the waiting list for this year-long program. Let’s bring The Global Warming Express to every kid who wants to jump on board.

When so many adults are failing the next generation, their planet and our climate, it’s time to allow kids the opportunity to lead. Please help us provide more New Mexico schoolchildren access to this great program by making a pledge today.

Thank you,
David Coss, Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter chair
