Coalition for Clean Affordable Energy PRC approval of Solar Direct Program

The Coalition for Clean Affordable Energy (CCAE) applauds the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission for unanimously approving the Solar Direct Program today.  The Solar Direct Program allows governmental and private entities in New Mexico to procure additional renewable energy from PNM to meet their clean energy goals at an affordable price, without any subsidies from other ratepayers.   Program participants include the cities of Albuquerque, Deming and Silver City; the counties of Bernalillo, Santa Fe and Grant; Deming Public Schools, and Western New Mexico University.

The 50 megawatts of new solar the Commission approved will be built on land owned by and provide $1.5 million in lease payments to the Jicarilla Nation.  In addition, it will provide $50 to $70 million in direct investment, create more than 200 construction and operations jobs, and add significantly more clean, renewable energy to PNM’s grid.

This is a win for everyone, and the Coalition for Clean Affordable Energy sincerely thanks the Commission for its decision.
