Would you like to support the Rio Grande Chapter campaign to promote clean, renewable energy? How about our outreach efforts such as Global Warming Express? Shouldn’t the Public Regulation Commission be held accountable for enforcing New Mexico’s Renewable Energy Act? Your donations make all these things happen!

The Sierra Club is a non-profit 501(c)(4) organization. This means that membership dues and most contributions are not tax-deductible. This status allows us to lobby for environmental issues and support political candidates. Our membership activities and lobbying costs relating to advocacy can be supported by your non-tax-deductible contributions to the organization.

Donation from your IRA

When you make a gift to the Rio Grande Chapter via Sierra Club Foundation through your Individual Retirement Account (IRA), you’re taking meaningful action today that will ensure lasting protection for New Mexico tomorrow. These gifts support education, advocacy, conservation, and ensuring more people have access to our great outdoors.

If you are 70 1⁄2 or older, you have the option to make donations to Sierra Club Foundation directly from your IRA. These gifts are known as Qualified Charitable Distributions.

If you are 73 or older, you can use a QCD to satisfy a portion or the entirety of your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) for the year. You can donate up to $108,000 per year via QCDs. Giving through your IRA is a wise way to support the work you care about at the Rio Grande Chapter, while potentially reducing your federal income tax liability.
