Hear Our Vote – Women’s Marches January 20 & 21

On January 21, 2017 we made our voices heard across the country. From DC to Albuquerque, we stood up to demand better. It’s been a long year and now there’s even more to fight for, and we’ve made it known that we won’t back down and we will continue to bring #PowerToThePolls!

The 2018 elections stand to be a pivotal point in our current political climate. This year following the anniversary events, the Women’s March will be touring the nation to register voters, engage underserved communities, and put force behind women and progressive candidates in swing states. Let’s make sure the nation and world hears us as we commit to bringing even more #PowerToThePolls!

The following events are scheduled for New Mexico:

Albuquerque – Sunday, January 21, 11am at Civic Plaza
Las Cruces – Sunday, January 21, noon at the Plaza
Santa Fe – Sunday, January 21, noon at the Capitol
Taos – Saturday, January 20, noon at the Plaza
Truth or Consequences – Saturday, January 20, noon at Healing Water Plaza

In Albuquerque, members of the environmental community will join the Women’s March on Sunday at 10am. Bring your signs and chants calling on all to care for our leading lady – Mother Earth who says #MeToo. We’ll gather at 6th and Marquette. Then we’ll join the main march, which will start a block for our meeting point and end up at the Rally at Civic Plaza.

Songs for Mother Earth

[Lyrics below]

Clean Energy

When it began,
I can’t begin to knowin’
But Exxon Mobile’s grown too strong

Emissions increased
And then the Earth got warmer
Big companies strung us along

Wind, blowing wind
Shining sun,
power for me, power for you

Clean energy
Blue skies never looked so blue
I’ve seen the stars
Like I thought I never would
But now I . . .

Look at the stars
And if they seem so dim now
Know there is much that we can do

And when it rains
Acid rains fill the ocean
How can we stop the harm we do?

Wind, blowing wind,
Shining sun,
power for me, power for you

Clean energy
Blue skies never looked so blue
I’ve seen the stars
Like I thought I never would
Oh, no no

Clean energy
Blue skies never looked so blue
Clean energy
I believe we can renew
Clean energy
Blue skies never looked so blue
Clean energy

Exxon Knew

Oil and coal gotta go
They are the source that we know
Of global temps rising high
And CO2 in the sky

Exxon’s an energy firm
They pump the oil we burn
Knew it in ’88
But they revealed it too late

Exxon knew
That all the things that they do
They were untrue
In all the stuff that they spew

Oil and coal got to go
They are the source that we know
Of global temps rising high
And CO2 in the sky

Now is the time that we pay
For the choices we made
We need wind and sol
And Exxon’s gotta go

Exxon knew
That all the things that they do
They were untrue
In all the things that they knew

Exxon knew
That they were untrue
Now me and you
It’s time for us to turn the screw

New Mexico, New Mexico

New Mexico New Mexico let’s all get together
When we use renewables we make the planet better
Water for our gardens and air fit to breathe
Seven generations’ inheritance we leave

And while we
Are sharing
Earth’s riches enough for us all
With love for each other
Respect for our mother
We care for our common home
With love for each other
Respect for our mother
We care for our common home
