Climate Justice rally at Roundhouse moved outdoors

For immediate release: Feb. 23, 2023

Advisory: Climate Justice Day rally moved outside Roundhouse today to accommodate COVID concerns

Today, New Mexico environmental and community groups will join legislators to call attention to important legislation protecting our climate and opening doors to thriving communities. Because of an apparent increase in COVID cases at the Roundhouse, the 1 p.m. rally will now be held outside, and some tables will be staged outside, but those who feel comfortable going inside will also learn how to lobby their legislators, get support in finding and connecting with them, and speak at committee hearings.

Agenda:

9 a.m.: Community groups, state and city agencies and solar companies will host informational tables. These tables will now be located inside and outside according to the preference of the organization. Participant sign-in at Sierra Club table outside east doors of Rotunda.

9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Electric Vehicle Showcase. The Santa Fe Electric Vehicle Interest Group will feature its members’ EVs outside the east side of the Roundhouse. Members will be on hand to show the cars and answer questions.

10 a.m.-1 p.m.: Participants get trained and go in groups to meet with their legislators. Lobby training in Room 326. Participants learn how to lobby their legislators and get briefed on a few of our priority climate bills.

1 p.m.: Climate Justice rally OUTSIDE on east side of building.

We’ll hear from legislative champions, including tentatively Speaker Javier Martinez, about a host of important legislation and climate funding.
