Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter statement on New Mexico unofficial election results so far

As we await the results of legislative races and Congressional District 2, the Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter released the following statements about the races that have been called:

Governor’s race:

“No New Mexico governor has done more to protect the climate and New Mexicans’ health than Michelle Lujan Grisham. From making EVs more affordable and accessible to reducing climate-damaging methane pollution, she is creating climate solutions. From fostering more than $1 billion in renewable energy investments in coal-impacted communities to moving New Mexico toward 100% carbon-free electricity, she is leading us toward a thriving, sustainable economy.”
— Camilla Feibelman, Rio Grande Chapter director

Secretary of State:

“The threat to democracy from insurrectionists and election-deniers across the country is real. It’s a relief knowing our elections will be safely run by an honest, capable professional who is committed to voter protection and voter access.”
— Richard Barish, Rio Grande Chapter Political chair

Land Commissioner:

“Stephanie Garcia Richard is the steward New Mexico’s trust lands need. Garcia Richard has tripled renewable-energy leases on state trust lands, protected Greater Chaco, identified new income sources and fought to hold polluters accountable and raise royalty rates — all while breaking revenue records. We can’t wait to see what great things she does next.”
— Richard Barish, Rio Grande Chapter Political Team chair
