Ensuring That Those Who  Defended our Country and Their Families Can Enjoy the Land They Protected

The Sierra Club Military Outdoors Program organizes outdoor trips for veterans, active-duty service members, National Guard and their families, because we know that time spent in nature provides a unique opportunity to foster mental and physical health, emotional resiliency, and leadership development.

The US Military and the Sierra Club have a rich history together beginning before WW-II with the US Army’s 10th Mountain Division and continuing through to today.

Come join us for outings throughout New Mexico and the Southwest. Most outings are free.

Camaraderie

Many Veterans and their families miss the sense of camaraderie, teamwork and trust they felt while on active duty. Active duty personnel often find it challenging to find group activities during their down-time. On Military Outdoors outings you’ll be joined by other veterans and active duty personnel and their families, from all branches.

Health

Countless studies have shown that time spent outdoors has numerous mental, physical and emotional benefits. The benefits are especially pronounced by those who’ve suffered traumatic events. You’ll be spending time with others who understand.

Environment

Experience the wonders of nature. Participate in activities that are not only good for you, but are good for the environment. We only protect the things that we love.
